Bhaktivedanta Gurukula & International School, Vrindavan

Introduction

The Bhaktivedanta Gurukula and International School (BGIS) located in the beautiful holy land of Sri Vrindavan dham, the abode of Lord Krishna, offers the best of both worlds - the traditional and the modern, the vedic and the contemporary, the spiritual and the temporal. It was established by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in the year 1976.

Mission

At BGIS we seek to provide a learning environment that stimulates challenges and satisfies our learners. Students are expected to be responsible and respectful, neat and clean, and, most importantly, active participants in the learning process. We believe that learning should be an effective and happy experience, something that will encourage students to become lifetime learners. There are frequent field trips to promote experiential learning.

Teachers

Quality teachers make a school. At BGIS we have our own teacher-training programme, and we support our staff with regular meetings and with seminars on teaching techniques and classroom-management skills. Lifelong-learning teachers create lifelong-learning students. Five of the teachers at BGIS are graduates from IITs.

Curriculum

BGIS students appear for ISCE and ISC exams in 10th and 12th grade. In middle grade focus is mainly given to English, Sanskrit and Math. The students work individually, do group assignments and handle theme projects. Written tests are taken twice yearly, and there is a continual assessment of homework and class work. The English curriculum from class 1 to 8 is completely based on Krishna Conscious literature. The boys are also engaged in varieties of co-curricular activities like sports, music, dramatics, debates etc.

Traditional Training

Learning to practice age-old Vaisnava culture as a lifestyle is an integral aspect of the Gurukul’s focus. Students learn the tradition of mutual respect, integrity, cleanliness (physical and spiritual), mercy and tolerance. They also learn how to tackle the vices of lust, anger and greed.

Students learn how to adopt Vaisnava culture as a lifestyle through the daily practice of early rising, mangal artik, japa meditation, deity worship and honoring prasadam.

The stress at BGIS is on holistic approach to education. Everything that is taught here helps our students develop a well-rounded personality that will stand them in good stead as they embark on their individual journeys through life.

Patron of Education Program

For those students who can’t afford and unwilling to pay the fee or unable to fulfill their education needs BGIS provide special scholarship endowment funds for them. To collect funds for the project, Patron of Education team conduct Braj Outreach Program in which we provide spiritual as well as general education to village boys
